Project Description
The NACRA 500 has long been known by club sailors as the ‘pocket rocket’. This has been given afterburners in the NACRA 500 Sport configuration. There are a number of features on this boat that will mean that the crews will often get race honours in a handicap fleet.
With two twin trapezes this cat will be able to be sailed by the best club racers without needing to go to the expert level boats in the NACRA range. Her jib tack is connected close to the bowsprit to minimise heel and giving more power lower down. The sails are made of MNX reinforced microfilm to minimise stretch over time yet maximise performance. This handicap beating rocket also sports a 17 square metre spinnaker to rip along on downwind legs.
One of the key features of the NACRA 500 Sport is that she has no daggerboards, meaning that she can be sailed at clubs with shallower waters yet still has the performance of her bigger cousins. Her hulls are deeper to make for better windward performance to compensate. Altogether this will be the boat everyone needs to beat on the Sunday racing circuit!
